The University of South Wales’s MA Working for Children and Young People is for those who are professionally qualified in youth work at undergraduate level and looking for professional and academic progression. It will also be of value to graduates of related professions such as education, social care, health, youth offending, sports or community development or the voluntary sector. What makes the MA Working for Children and Young People course so different is its focus on inter-professional practice, and how the needs of children, young people, families and communities can best be met in a rapidly changing policy, strategic and operational context. Its additional strength is its focus on the development of critical thinking and leadership skills, together with a greater understanding of the policy and practice context of this specific area of professional work
Modules include: •Building Effective Partnerships •Ethics, Reflection and Safeguarding •Supervision and Support skills (including the All Wales Supervision Qualification for practice supervisors) •Social Pedagogy •Managing and Leading Interdisciplinary Teams •Research Methods •Restorative Approaches with Children and Young People •Dissertation (20,000 words) or Internship and Critical Report (15,000 words)
Assessment is through a variety of written assignments, presentations, group work and distance learning tasks.
